Housing FAQs – Transfer Students

smiling group of students

Third floor west wing of Marian Hall hosts our Transfer Living Learning Community. This community is co-educational and specifically designed for incoming transfer students. All residents on this wing are sophomore status or higher. Living with other transfer students in a shared space going through similar experiences can be a great help as you transition into University of St. Francis. Beyond the resident assistant on the wing there are also current USF students who transferred in previously, living on the wing to plan programs and create community building opportunities. Also, students in this wing get to move in earlier than other transfer and returning students, making your move in day much easier.

The fourth floor of Tower and Motherhouse boast a more quiet style living community. These spaces are commonly occupied by junior and senior level students who are focused on their major-related courses. Students choose to live in these spaces to be close to classes and dining options. Many student suggest selecting these options as they were very helpful to them.

Housing applications are available on the USF portal. New students do need their username and password to log in. The application may be submitted online here.

Students are encouraged to submit their application before June 1.

Roommates are assigned based on the answers to questions found on the housing application. Those individuals with similar interests and lifestyle habits are placed together to the best of our ability using the information from your application. Students may request a particular roommate by listing that person’s name on the housing application. In order to be placed together, both individuals must list the other as their desired roommate. Both students must have their applications submitted by June 1.

When are housing assignments made?

Staff members begin making housing assignments for freshman and transfer students in April and continue through August. Letters that include room placement are mailed in April and in June. Please contact the Office of Disabilities Serveries (ODS) if you feel housing accommodations are needed due to a disability, including requests for an air conditioner. Questions about housing assignments may be directed to the Director of Residence Education at mrockafellow@stfrancis.edu.

Single rooms are limited and most house returning upperclassman students. However, any student with a legitimate need for a single room should contact the Office of Disability Services at 815-740-5060.

Move-in day for transfers will take place on Friday before classes start in the fall and the Friday before classes start in the spring.

The cost of your meal plan is included in your room and board charge. You get to choose between three meal options. Students are automatically placed into 175 meals and $100 in Dining Dollars. They can request to be switched to 125 meals and $200 in Dining Dollars or 19 meals per week in the café when they arrive on campus and during the first two weeks of the semester.

Dining Dollars is money that is applied to your ID card. This money can be used at the university snack shop, café, Bernie’s Pub or Bistro by resident or commuter students, faculty, administrators or staff.

The dimensions of a Marian Hall double room are approximately 13’ x 15’. Layouts for various types of rooms can be found on the residence halls webpage, available by clicking the blue link at left.
