University of St. Francis named an ‘Opportunity College and University’ by the Carnegie Classifications
This classification recognizes institutions that foster success through student access and earnings
Joliet, Ill. – The University of St. Francis (USF) has been classified as an ‘Opportunity College and University’ by the Carnegie Classifications. Per Carnegie’s website, “Opportunity Colleges and Universities are institutions within the Student Access and Earnings Classification that can serve as models for studying how campuses foster student success. They provide higher than expected levels of access to low-income and underrepresented students, and their students experience strong earnings outcomes.’’ USF is one of 13 Illinois colleges to receive this recognition.
479 institutions have been identified as ‘Opportunity Colleges and Universities’ in 2025. The methodology for this newly developed classification employs multidimensional groupings of the 2025 Institutional Classification to assess student access and earnings across similar colleges and universities.
