WalletHub Ranks USF as a Top University in Illinois

Joliet, Ill. – The University of St. Francis (USF) continues to be recognized by national ranking agencies as one of the top institutions of higher education in Illinois. WalletHub recently released its 2022 Best Colleges and Universities Rankings in which the agency ranked USF as one of the best schools in Illinois.

The rankings, which were compiled by comparing more than 1,000 higher-education institutions across 30 different measures within seven categories that included Student Selectivity, Cost & Financing and Career Outcomes, named the University of St. Francis one of the top six overall higher-education institutes in Illinois. WalletHub’s rankings also placed USF at #32 in the Midwest rankings, and ranked USF #1 in Illinois in the “Campus Safety” category. To view the list in its entirety, visit wallethub.com/edu/e/college-rankings/40750.

WalletHub representative Adam McCann indicated that the website’s rankings are designed to help students identify both good schools and good deals.

“In a fierce global economy, a college degree can help secure employment and keep you ahead of the competition. Though success ultimately rests on students’ own determination and performance, the quality of the schools they choose can certainly have an impact. However, attending higher education requires more than just the grades to get in. You will also need the financial resources to attend. It varies depending on the school’s public or private status and whether it’s in-state. For those prices, students want to know they are getting a good deal,” McCann said.

USF has a long history of assisting students with the financial obligations that a college degree carries with it. Each year, the university provides need-based financial aid to approximately 96% of full-time undergraduate students. In 2020-2021 alone, USF invested over $23 million in institutional funds in scholarships for full-time undergraduate students.

“Inflation has hit people hard this year, and not just at the gas pump and grocery store. At St. Francis we have held the line on costs, keeping tuition at levels lower than most private colleges and as low as some state universities,” said Eric Wignall, USF Vice President for Admissions.

“Everyone, from high school to graduate students, continue to feel uncertain about the future. We wanted to make college more affordable and hold down costs while providing more scholarships and student support. We think we can do better as a university if our students are successful and have less debt. It’s a key goal at USF,” he added.

The Princeton Review Names USF a Best Midwestern College

Joliet, Ill. – The University of St. Francis (USF) is one of the 158 best colleges in the Midwest according to The Princeton Review. The education services company lists USF in the Best in the Midwest section of its “2022 Best Colleges: Region by Region” website. The honor marks the fourteenth consecutive year USF has been named to this national listing. Arranged according to five regional categories (Northeast, Southeast, Midwest, West and International), The Princeton Review’s “2022 Best Colleges: Region by Region” recognizes 654 colleges and universities (representing just 23% of the nation’s four-year colleges and universities) that the organization considers both academically outstanding and a valuable collegiate option. “USF is dedicated to preparing women and men to contribute to the world through service and leadership, and will continue to work together build a Franciscan future in our second century as a higher educational institution. National recognition such as this – a fourteenth consecutive year of recognition by The Princeton Review – demonstrates the University of St. Francis’ longstanding and ongoing commitment to student success in terms of retention to graduation rates to in-field job placement,” USF President Arvid C. Johnson, Ph.D., said. Robert Franek, The Princeton Review’s Editor-in-Chief, indicated that academics and overall campus experience play an important role in assembling this annual listing. “We chose the University of St. Francis and the other outstanding institutions on this list primarily for their academics,” Franek said. He noted that the company considered data from its survey of administrators at several hundred colleges in each region, information from staff visits to schools over the years, and the opinions of college counselors and advisors whose perspectives the company solicits. “We also consider what students enrolled at the schools reported to us on our student survey about their campus experiences,” Franek added. USF Named in America’s Top Colleges 2021 Listing by Forbes

Joliet, Ill. – The University of St. Francis (USF) announced today that it has been included in Forbes’ “America’s Top Colleges 2021” listing. The listing includes just 600 of the nearly 2,700 degree-granting institutions in the United States. “Throughout its first 100 years, USF maintained its focus on offering a Catholic, comprehensive educational experience – rooted in the liberal arts and challenged by our Franciscan values and charism – to each and every student. This focus and commitment are as strong, alive and well today in our second century as a higher educational institution as ever before, which is demonstrated through national recognition such as this,” USF President Arvid C. Johnson, Ph.D., said. Forbes spokesperson Christian Kreznar explained the selection methodology used by Forbes to compile its “America’s Top Colleges 2021” listing. “We first selected colleges and universities that educate undergraduates, based on their Carnegie Classification, a higher education framework that categorizes schools by their degree offerings, research output and specialty focus. We selected doctoral research universities, master’s universities and colleges and baccalaureate colleges. We also included colleges that provide specialized four-year programs in engineering, business and art,” said Kresznar. “From that pool we drew schools that had sufficient data from the following sources: The College Scorecard and the Integrated Postsecondary Education Data System (IPEDS), two federal databases that track student outcomes and institutional characteristics. We also drew from PayScale, a salary reporting and comparison company; Third Way, a D.C.-based think tank that developed the Price-to-Earnings Premium; and the National Center for Science and Engineering Statistics (NCSES). We cut schools with fewer than 300 total undergraduates,” Kreznar added. Visit forbes.com/top-colleges/ to view Forbes’ complete “America’s Top Colleges 2021” listing. USF Named in U.S. News & World Report 2022 Best Colleges Rankings

Joliet, Ill. – U.S. News & World Report continues to recognize the University of St. Francis (USF) as a top university in the United States. This year’s recognition in the publication’s 2022 Best Colleges rankings marks USF’s third year in the “National Universities” category, and the eighteenth consecutive year that USF has been honored by U.S. News & World Report. According to usnews.com/education, “Schools in the ‘National Universities’ category offer a full range of undergraduate majors, plus master’s and doctoral programs. These colleges also are committed to producing groundbreaking research.” USF was ranked 249th in the “National Universities” category of this year’s publication. The ranking placed USF ninth among the seventeen Illinois schools included in the report, sixth among private Illinois schools, and third among Illinois’ ranked Catholic schools. USF is also Will County’s only school included in U.S News & World Report’s 2022 “National University” rankings. “Annual recognition by U.S. News & World Report acknowledges the quality of a University of St. Francis education,” said USF President Arvid C. Johnson, Ph.D.  “Rankings such as this help to validate the efforts of our faculty and provide us with many points of pride. However, the most important indicators of our success as educators are that our students have a great learning experience, graduate, are considered top prospects by employers, and find jobs that launch their careers.” U.S. News & World Report also ranked USF as one of the top 100 universities in the country in its “Top Performers on Social Mobility” list for a third consecutive year (up three ranking positions from 2021). The ranking recognizes USF as a school that supports and assists economically disadvantaged students. According to usnews.com, “Some colleges are more successful than others at advancing social mobility by enrolling and graduating large proportions of disadvantaged students awarded with Pell Grants. The vast majority of these federal grants are awarded to students whose adjusted gross family incomes are under $50,000.” “Being recognized for Social Mobility is certainly a measure of which every staff and faculty member at USF can be proud,” said USF Vice President for Admissions and Marketing, Eric Wignall. “This accolade demonstrates our continued commitment to serve people from every background and income level, while also showing how solid our educational programs are that our graduates truly make more and do more to improve their lives.” One new accolade for this year is USF’s inclusion in the publication’s Best Undergraduate Nursing rankings. USF was ranked at 432 out of close to 700 institutions. “This year, U.S. News & World Report is publishing its first-ever undergraduate Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) rankings. In the spring and summer of 2021, U.S. News surveyed deans and senior faculty members at each of the 694 undergraduate BSN degree granting nursing programs that met identified criteria,” a spokesperson for U.S. News & World Report said.
